If the WBA title isn’t at stake against Verhoeven, it’s only fair to strip Usyk or make him a ‘Champion in Recess,’ allowing Murat to step up.’ Gassiev, who lost to Usyk in 2018, is now a seasoned heavyweight with knockout power, and a rematch would be explosive.
The WBC’s Next Move: Kabayel or Okolie?
Adding to the intrigue, WBC interim champion Agit Kabayel is next in line for a shot at Usyk. But Britain’s Lawrence Okolie, the WBC No. 1 contender, predicts Usyk will vacate the title, setting the stage for him to face Kabayel. ‘Usyk’s chasing big paydays, not tough fights,’ Okolie told Sky Sports. ‘Kabayel falls into that category.’
